A DIAC is a form of solid-state switch used to switch AC voltage. It belongs to the class of switches known as thyristers. It is like a junction transistor without a base lead (it is a two-lead device) and accomplishes its switching action by breakdown at a certain voltage.
DB3 trigger diode (Diac) is a bidirectional diode which has a two-terminal with asymmetric conductance. It can be used to conduct in both forward and reverse direction. It offers low resistance to current flow in one direction, and high resistance in the other direction.
Functioning as a trigger diode with a fixed voltage reference, the DB3/DB4 series can be used in conjunction with triacs for simplified gate control circuits.
